It Burns When I Eat…

… I just had some pineapple (about 2 cups worth), and now my tongue feels kinda burny and numb. I don’t have any real allergies, but maybe I have one to pineapple?

My theory is that pineapple is just gross.

Well I know someone who is allergic to pineapple and pretty much all melons.

It is a really shitty allergy since she loves fruit, but now has to eat the canned variety

I wouldn’t worry too much about that reaction. I’ve had it before on occasion. Someone told me that a lot of tropical fruits have self-defense enzymes which can manifest as allergy-like symptoms. Pineapples and mangoes, specifically. I think the trick is, if the fruit is fresh, to rinse it with water before eating it. It would suck to have an actual allergy to pineapple as fresh pineapple is one of life’s true pleasures (not for House, obviously) as well as having “helpful” enzymes that accelerate the digestion process. I heart pineapple!

House - Pineapple is not gross!! It’s great!!

jeff - That does suck. The canned stuff is so not the same.

Div - Maybe that’s my problem. I’ll try again w/ some well-rinsed stuff and see how it goes.

Pineapple sucks hard.

Hey, I don’t diss peanut butter, why you gotta be hatin’ on the pineapple?

Be careful! I LOVE pineapple, always have. I loved it so much that i would eat one fresh pineapple weekly for months on end. i just always had it sliced in chunks in the fridge. After a lifetime of loving the fruit without a problem i started to get a sore mouth when i would eat it…and i thought it was just the acidity. Until one day when i had a mix drink in a restraunt, and couldn’t breath after a couple of sips. I became hot a dizzy, and almost left in an ambulance. now i can’t get near pineapple as it has developed into a full blown allergy. a little lesson in moderation i guess.

do you eat the centre part. because that is full of fibres that latch onto the tongue.
